2023 KEEPER OF THE FLAME
On Saturday, February 18th, CDA member, Francisca Marez was honored
as Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church’s recipient of the “Keeper of the
Flame” award held at the 21st Annual Black History Month mass and
ceremony at The Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels. The Most Rev. Jose
H. Gomez, Archbishop of Los Angeles was celebrant with Rev. Ekwutosi
Michael Ume serving as the homilist.
African American Catholic Center for Evangelization (ACCFE)
representatives, Ray and Marcella Cooper escorted Francis to receive

In attendance to celebrate the award presentations with 19 Los Angeles
area parishes and their honorees. Court members, family attended and
were moved by the theme “Walk Together Children,” AACCFE Choir,
Nigerian Choir from St. Eugene Church and the gathering of clergy.
