KEEPER OF THE FLAME



2023 RECIPIENT: FRANCISCA MAREZ
On Saturday, February 18th, CDA member, Francisca Marez was honored as Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church’s recipient of the “Keeper of the Flame” award held at the 21st Annual Black History Month mass and ceremony at The Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels. The Most Rev. Jose H. Gomez, Archbishop of Los Angeles was celebrant with Rev. Ekwutosi Michael Ume serving as the homilist.

In attendance to celebrate the award presentations with 19 Los Angeles
area parishes and their honorees. Court members, family attended and
were moved by the theme “Walk Together Children,” AACCFE Choir,
Nigerian Choir from St. Eugene Church and the gathering of clergy.
2022 RECIPIENT: DR. ESSIE PRESTON
On Saturday, February 19, 2022 at the Our Lady of the Angels Cathedral, the 2022 Keeper of the Flame awards were given out. The recipient representing Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church was our own Dr. Essie Preston. Dr. Preston has been a member of Our Lady of Victory for over 20 years. She is a Eucharistic minister as well as a Catholic Daughter.
