2023 AFRICAN AMERICAN HISTORY MONTH MASS and POTLUCK
February is Black History Month, our guest speaker on Sunday, February 19th was Precious Alugbue. Precious and her extended family are long-time member of OLV and served as an altar server for many years. Precious gave a very informative and inspiring story of her journey from Nigeria to Compton and how her Catholic faith has guided her. Presently, she is studying nursing at Compton College.

African American History Month celebration concluded at Our Lady of Victory Church with our guest speaker, Dr. Essie Preston, and the congregation praying the, ”Prayer for Peace. “

All parishioners were invited to attend a potluck after mass. The students at OLV and their families were on hand to enjoy a an array of African American food favorites: including, fried chicken, smothered chicken, blackeye peas, rice, cornbread, potato salad, green beans, and delicious desserts. A big thank you to our sisters who cooked such delicious food!
